We are seeking an experienced and community-minded leader to join our team as Chair of Trustees


We are seeking an experienced and community-minded leader to join our team as Chair of Trustees. This is a voluntary position requiring the incumbent to become a trustee of the charity.



We are seeking a Chair who has a strong understanding of the voluntary sector and understands the context and value of Trowbridge and the surrounding areas or has experience of similar communities.


Our new Chair joins us at an exciting time as we have recently increased our capacity through the development of a purpose-designed youth centre and larger Community Hub both in the heart of Trowbridge.


Core Services

Trowbridge Future is a growing, popular local charity that has become an essential service to an increasing number of local people living in and around Trowbridge, with a turnover of £375,000.We are an essential front-line service to many vulnerable residents. We run a Community Hub offering support and signposting and satellite Hubs with kindness cafes, craft groups, walking groups, cooking classes, mental health support, English language classes and a monthly veteran support group. We run 3 Community Fridges distributing unsold food items from supermarkets and food outlets. We run a dedicated youth centre delivering a strong portfolio of activities for children and young people aged 8 to 18 years old. The youth team follow the National Youth Agency (NYA) Occupations Standards run by NYA trained youth workers.

Our Mission

Trowbridge Future aims to develop the skills and capacities of the residents of the disadvantaged communities of Trowbridge and surrounding areas. This will be achieved by providing local people with the opportunities to come together and build strong relationships, to help them feel better about where they live and support them in improving their community and the things that matter to them.

 

Trowbridge Future has two core programmes areas:

 

-          Community - To support residents to come together and respond to issues of concern to improve their lives and the area in which they live. Building relationships and peer support, to enable ongoing, positive journeys of change.

 

-          Youth - To provide sustainable, regular and holistic youth activities in Trowbridge and encourage the young people of the town to reach their full potential in their personal and social development through informal learning and participation in empowering and constructive activities within a safe, non-judgemental environment.

Key attributes we are looking for

-         Strong understanding of the voluntary sector and the funding landscape

-         Enthusiasm for supporting the improvement of our local communities and the spaces and activities available to its most vulnerable members

-         A strong sense in the value of community and youth led activities

-         Good understanding of governance

-         Authentic and servicing leadership

 

Key requirements

-         Act as an ambassador for the charity, representing its interests and values to external stakeholders and the Trowbridge community

-         Continuing to enhance our positive culture and upholding our values by role modelling positive and inclusive behaviour

-         Line management of CEO (with monthly one to ones & email contact)

-         Chair trustee’s meetings (every two months)

-         Ensure the trustees’ active engagement, that trustees meetings are led inclusively, and the board carries out its duties.

-         Monitoring the agreed actions from board meetings to ensure that decisions are implemented properly and in a timely manner.

-         Undertake annual appraisals with CEO and trustees.

-         Ensure the charity complies with statutory charitable requirements,

-         Provide strategic guidance and support to the CEO and Senior Management Team

-         Offer crisis management support to the CEO and Senior Management Team.
