Salary: £11 per hour
Hours of work: 12 hours per week. Must be able to work evenings. Additional hours could be available.

We are looking for youth development workers, as well as volunteers to engage with young people, giving them opportunities for personal and social development, to assist in building their resilience and learning new skills. The main purpose of the role involves:
The youth development assistant will help and contribute to provide supervision and engaging activities for young people at our regular youth sessions in our dedicated youth space. The right candidate will work as part of a small youth team and volunteers who are good role models and act as trusted adults for young people in the town. This role will be exciting and rewarding, but any candidates should be aware that young people do at times show challenging or anti social behaviour and therefore it is important that they are resilient.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to the development and delivery of our programmes and encouraging the active participation of young people in developing their skills and understanding of the world around them.
Work with our youth ambassadors and involve young people in decision making processes around the planning and organising of activities.
Effectively promote youth provision to all young people irrespective of gender, race sexuality and disability.
Be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage young people to participate.
Work in a confidential and professional manner and uphold the good reputation of Trowbridge Future and in doing this, you should abide by Trowbridge Future policies and procedures.
Maintain current knowledge of relevant youth programmes, policies, and practices.
Undertake administrative duties as necessary, e.g. maintain accurate attendance registers, session plans and evaluations
Ensure appropriate cleaning of venues is undertaken after sessions.
Assist in maintaining equipment and resources held by Trowbridge Future.
Abide by all Trowbridge Future's policies and procedures.
Act responsibly in managing your own health and safety and that of anyone else who may be affected by your actions/omissions, ensuring to report any maintenance/H&S issues as they arise.
Attend youth team meetings. This may be outside of your normal working hours.

All staff are expected to show a commitment to their own personal development. This will include training.
Youth development assistants working hours will include regular attendance at youth work sessions in the evenings and occasional weekends.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Youth Development Assistant
Essential
Basic education qualifications, with a good standard of literacy and basic IT skills.
Experience working or volunteering with young people.
Working within the charity sector.
An understanding of Safeguarding and Child protection.
A recognition of the importance of Safeguarding, Health & Safety and Equality procedures.
Can work in a confidential manner.
A good understanding of de-escalation techniques and how to be non confrontational.
Able to be reliable and organised
Able to be a self-starter
Be a team player
Able to provide reliable support to young people in times of stress or crisis and act with integrity.
Able to be show flexibility within your working pattern & be available to work in the evenings.
Full valid driving licence

Youth focused qualifications
JNC qualification (Joint Negotiating Committee)
First Aid qualification
Food hygiene qualifications
Level 3 diploma in youth work.
Youth work experience
Delivering youth provision in a wide range of environments.
Relevant knowledge and experience of youth development.
Mentoring/Befriending experience.
Knowledge of the local Trowbridge area.
Understanding of the issues or challenges that young people might face.
Understanding the complexities of equality and diversity and you can consider these when supporting or delivering youth sessions.
Working knowledge of challenging behaviour.
a sense of adventure and willingness to try new things.
